Biography:  Ty Franklin coached basketball at three Illinois high schools, Ogden, Potomac and Peoria Richwoods.  While at Potomac High School, Franklin’s underclass basketball team established an area record of 59 straight victories over portions of four seasons. The Potomac Artesians varsity team also set a record of 59 victories over two consecutive seasons. Franklin’s 1956 team at Potomac was 30-4, the most wins for any Illinois school in 1956. Two of his earliest teams at Richwoods went 20-6 (1962) overall.  Franklin, who was twice named basketball coach of the year from Eureka College (1955-60), compiled a 287-206 record. Franklin was also highly regarded as a baseball and cross-country coach. His 1978 Richwoods baseball team was second in the state. As a baseball coach, his teams in 35 seasons were 453-325. In cross country, Franklin’s teams were 241-27-1 in 21 seasons. Franklin is already a member of the state baseball and cross country coaches hall of fame. In 1978 he was named Tri-Country sports figure of the year in the Peoria area. Franklin pitched the only no-hit, no-run game in Eureka College baseball history.
