Biography: Thomas has been instrumental in the City of Chicago by teaching basketball and preaching the importance of education at the junior high level for over 30 years. His teams at (Chicago) Beasley Academic Center have won over 1,000 games. He began promoting the term "scholar-athlete" in 1982 to reflect his philosophy of combining academic success with athletic competition. He expects students to be sound academically first. The emphasis on education assures that the players will have a chance for success after basketball. The Beasley program boasts a 100% high school graduation rate and an 85% college graduation rate. Beasley produced 42 NCAA Division I players under Green's guidance.
