Reid Martin

Biography: Reid Martin has been deeply involved with Illinois High School Basketball throughout his career. He served an assistant basketball coach at Carbondale Community HS from 1953-58. During that period, Martin was a certified official and worked many games up to the regional level. He became Carbondale athletic director in 1963 and served in that position until 1976. In that capacity, Martin was involved with conceiving, initiating and directing the Carbondale Holiday Tournament, which has become one of the most prestigious in the state. A founder and charter member of the State Athletic Director’s Association, Reid Martin served as the group’s president in 1968-69. During that tenure, Martin was involved with initiating the two-class basketball system. He has also served on the IHSA Basketball Advisory Committee. Martin became superintendent of schools at Carbondale in 1976 to finish his career.
