Biography: Ed Alsene served as director of Publicity and Sports Information at Illinois Wesleyan University. His basketball brochures continually ranked near the top in National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ judging.  Alsene was a force in Illinois high school sports long before “going to college.” Alsene served as assistant sports editor of the Bloomington Pantagraph from 1942-54 and was sports editor at the Illinois State Journal, first, and later of the combined sports departments of the Illinois State Journal and Illinois State Register in Springfield from 1959-65. During that time, Alsene’s papers emphasized local and area coverage of high school basketball as well as providing information on the entire state as the season progressed toward the tournaments. Readers eagerly anticipated his analysis and data on the best teams of each year.  Ed Alsene passed away on July 17, 2016.
