Biography:

Jack Prowell was a popular sports editor of the Champaign News-Gazette.  He was a young man in the prime of his life when he passed away in the early 1950’s.  His daily column “Prowling Around”, was read statewide and received numerous sports writing awards.  Jack was credited for starting the News-Gazette All State Team and with modernizing and popularizing the press coverage at the state basketball tournament.  Jack was a great friend of Illinois basketball.
