Biography: Tommy Stewart was a quarterback on the 1952 University of Illinois Rose Bowl Champions. He later became the head football coach at Champaign Central High School. During this time, beginning in 1956, Tommy cut quite a niche as a high school basketball official. He was on the floor for IHSA state tournaments held in Champaign during 1965, 1966, and 1969. His striped shirt career also includes several IHSA Super-sectional games, 16 IHSA Sectional tournaments, and 20 IHSA Regional tournaments. During this time, Tommy has demonstrated a character which serves as a model for all football coaches and basketball officials to follow. Tommy Stewart passed away on March 25, 2012.
