Biography: From the time he averaged 21 ppg on a 21-0 Argyle Grade School team until he graduated from Kansas University, Dale Greenlee excelled both on the basketball court and as a student. An 18-point average on a 16-1 freshman team at Rockford’s Guilford High School, Greenlee became a varsity starter as a sophomore. He averaged 11 points as a sophomore and 17 as a junior. As a senior Greenlee missed all but the last eight games because of a broken ankle in football and still averaged 17 points. A WCEE-TV all-Big Eight selection as a junior, Greenlee was a special mention all-stater as a junior and senior. He was co-captain and co-MVP as a senior and was a Top Ten Senior academically and was the Commencement speaker. On a 12-0 Kansas freshman team, Greenlee averaged 18 ppg. He was a varsity starter beginning as a sophomore and compiled a 10.2 career scoring average. The playmaking guard hit 14 of 18 from the field as a senior against Oklahoma State. Dale was a member of the 1974 Jayhawks Final Four squad.  His career field goal mark was .485. His career free-throw percentage of .831 set a Kansas record as did his .900 in conference games. His .896 free throw percentage as a junior also set a record. He led the Jayhawks in assists, steals, and minutes played as a senior. Twice first team all-Big Eight Academic, Greenlee was an Academic All-American as a senior. Dale was twice voted Kansas’ most inspirational player, Greenlee also received the Big Eight Medallion for best combined athletic and academic records as a senior. Greenlee had professional tryouts with the Celtics, Pacers, and Spirits.  For the last 3 decades, Dale has run basketball summer camps in the Rockford area.
