Biography: John was an all-state player as a senior at Springfield Griffin High School in 1964. He led Griffin to a 23-4 record and was the No. 1 pitcher on the state championship baseball team. His 1,183 career points rank third in school history.  John played baseball and basketball at Saint Louis University. He was the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year twice and was in the St. Louis Cardinals’ big-league camp in 1968, 1969 and 1970 before suffering an arm injury.
