Biography: The 1992-93 season was reminiscent of the movie “Hoosiers” for Staunton was a team with four returning starters, went 27-4 and won the IHSA Class A state championship. The Bulldogs were led by 6-foot-5 “Twin Towers” Andy Kuba and Kevin Meyer while junior transfer Ron Hampton ran the show at point guard as they won a sectional for the first time in school history. In the supersectional against Bridgeport Red Hill, they rallied from a 6-point deficit with 20 seconds left in regulation on two 3-pointers by Kuba and won 65-64 in double overtime on a tip-in of his own miss with one second left. At Champaign, unranked Staunton handled Riverton and Hamilton and then stunned eighth-ranked Chicago Hales Franciscan in the championship 66-62 as Kuba had 26 points and 14 rebounds, Meyer scored 20 and Hampton added 13. Kuba averaged 21.5 points to make the all-tournament team.
