USA Today #2 Ranked Team

Biography:  During the regular season, Fenwick was ranked #1 in Illinois and at one point #1 in the nation.  After a grueling season, playing nearly every top-ranked team in the state and several nationally ranked teams, the Friars were more than ready for a great state tournament run.  At the IHSA State Finals in Normal, the Friars defeated (Chicago) Marshall HS 63-54 in the quarterfinal game.  They beat (Winnetka) New Trier HS 56-42 in the semi-final game and cruised to a 65-32 win over a very good (Naperville) Neuqua Valley HS in the championship game.  They were the ESCC Champions for a record 7th consecutive season and were the winners of the Warhawk Thanksgiving Tournament and the Dundee Crown Christmas Tournament.  The coaches, athletic staff and administration that helped turn the dream into a reality included Coaches:  Dave Power, William Power, Jana Mathis, Dale Heidloff, John Weaver, Glenn Zilligan, and Steve Ryan; Athletic Director Michael Curtin; Women's Athletic Coordinator Sandy Czajka; Videographer Erin Power; Head Scout Jack Mathis; Principal Dr. James Quaid and President: Father Richard LaPata, PP.
