Biography:
Chris Collins enjoyed a fantastic career at (Northbrook) Glenbrook North High School and Duke University that rivaled the career of his father, Doug,who starred at Benton High School and Illinois State University. At Glenbrook North, Collins began gathering honors as a junior when he was the team MVP and named to the Central Suburban League all-conference and all-state teams.
As a senior, all Collins did was average 31.2 points a game, shoot .510 from the field (.470 on 3-pointers) and .850 from the free-throw line. He had 123 assists and averaged 4.7 rebounds. He was named the school’s outstanding male athlete, team MVP, all-Central Suburban League and all-state. He was a shoo-in for Mr. Basketball of Illinois and was named Player of the Year by the Pioneer Press, Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times.
At Duke, Collins was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference all-rookie team in 1993. In 1996, Collins was second-team all-ACC in 1996 and team MVP.
He went into college coaching as an assistant at his alma mater before taking over at Northwestern University in 2013. He led the Wildcats to their first NCAA tournament berth in 2017 as they reached the second round.
