Biography: Dan Duff started in 88 consecutive games at Lincoln (IL) High School from 1978-81. The Railsplitters compiled a 105-13 record and claimed four Big 12 conference championships. Duff, a point guard, averaged only 8.7 ppg but more than made up with his playmaking ability from the point guard spot. Duff graduated as the holder of three assist records at Lincoln. He had 18 in one game as a senior and 239 for the season. In his career, Duff was credited with 622. The Railsplitters placed fourth in the state during Duff’s junior year. Duff, who played in the Dapper Dan and McDonald’s Prep Cage Classics following his senior year, was chosen to all-state teams selected by the Associated Press, United Press International and the IBCA. Twice Duff , who played on a state eighth grade championship team at Carroll Catholic in Lincoln, was named an All-Big 12 Conference selection. He lettered four years at The University of Notre Dame and was a regular during his junior year when the Irish were NIT runners-up in 1984. Although Duff wasn’t a starter for the Irish as a senior, he was team captain. He was often called to protect Irish leads late in the game because of his excellent ball-handling ability and 80% free throw shooting average.
