Biography: During his sixteen seasons as the head coach at Lawrenceville High School, Ron Felling had coached Lawrenceville to 388 victories against only 77 losses. His final 2 seasons, 1981-82 and 1982-83, the squads were a perfect 68-0. His squads won 12 North Egypt Conference titles, 18 Thanksgiving and Christmas Tournaments, 12 IHSA Regional titles, 7 IHSA Sectional championships, 5 IHSA Super-sectional wins. His teams won 4 IHSA State Championships (1972, 1974, 1982, 1983) and 1 IHSA 3rd place finish (1976). Felling has been the coach of the year for Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and the Illinois Coaches Association, 10 times the North Egypt Conference coach of the year and 4 times Southern and Central Illinois coach of the year as named by new media. Felling coached the Class A South in the first IBCA All-Star game and has coached 12 all-staters at Lawrenceville. Four times he has coached the state scoring leader. Felling was named Indiana State University’s Outstanding Alumnus in 1974. Felling served four seasons as an assistant at Lawrenceville, and one as junior high coach at Merrillville, Ind., before taking over as Lawrenceville’s head coach. Felling has also served as basketball coach, assistant football coach and as athletic director at the prep level. After leaving Lawrenceville, Coach Felling served as an assistant coach at Indiana University.
