Biography: Norm Kruger of Rockford perpetuated the old axiom, “You can’t keep a good man down”. Kruger officiated basketball, football and baseball for 32 years. Kruger was awarded IHSA assignments for 25 years, 1956-81. He didn’t in 1976 when he underwent open heart surgery. Besides high school basketball, Kruger has worked Continental Basketball Association, junior college and college games. He also refereed University of Illinois Wizz kid’s games and Rockford area Wheelchair Basketball games. Kruger received “Appreciation of Service to Youth” Award from the city of Rockford. NAIA District 20 honored Kruger for 25 years of service and dedication. He was named a sports Ambassador by the President’s People to People Sports Committee. He has served as president of the Midwest Officials Association and its high school assignment chairman for football, basketball and baseball.
