Biography: The Peoria area consistently produces some of the state’s top basketball officials. Bill England is one of them. England has officiated more than 900 varsity high school games in his 28 years behind the whistle. Included in his assignments were five IHSA Districts, 29 IHSA Regionals, 12 IHSA Sectionals and 8 IHSA Super-sectionals. Three times England served on the officiating crew of the IHSA Class A State Tournament, 1973, 1974 and 1976. In 1974, England worked the championship game when Lawrenceville nipped Ottawa Marquette 54-53. Two years later, with fellow Peorian, Dave Dwyer, England officiated Mount Pulaski’s 59-58 championship victory over ROVA. England also officiated the prestigious Pontiac Holiday Tournament for 19 years and for 8 years worked the Tri-County Conference Tournament.
