Biography: Larry (Marcus) McCoy was another of Bloom High School’s all-state basketball players. The 6’5” player earned all area, all-state and All-American honors as a senior for the Trojans. During that year, Larry scored at a 25 ppg clip. After high school, he was a three-year starter at Wisconsin where he averaged 14 ppg for the Badgers. He also set the Badger assist record in 1973-74 while ranking 13th in the nation for that category. At Wisconsin, Larry fought to be moved from the physical education tract to the area of study he loved most, helping other people. After earning his bachelor’s degree, Larry coached the Badger JV squad while working on his master’s degree in guidance and counseling. Larry spent most of his adult life in Madison–a town he truly cared for but later in life, returned to the south side of Chicago and worked tirelessly in support of the Chicago Heights community that he loved and the school (Bloom) that he loved. Larry McCoy passed away on November 12, 2018.
