Biography: Robert J. “Bobby” Neu played his prep basketball at (Chicago) St. Mel High School from 1932-36. He then stayed near home to play collegiately for DePaul University. As a Blue Demon, Bobby earned All-American status during his junior and senior seasons. After college, he played in the National Basketball League (predecessor to the NBA). Bobby played 2 seasons with the Hammond Ciesar All-Americans, earning 2nd-team All NBL Honors in 1941. After that season, Bobby served in the US Army during WWII for 3 years. Upon returning from the service, he played 2 more seasons for the Pittsburgh Raiders and the Chicago American Gears. Over 80 games in the NBL, Bobby averaged 6.7 ppg. Bobby Neu passed away on February 7. 1971 at the age of 53.
