Biography: Jim was a three-sport star at Peoria Spalding in the early 1950s, earning seven all-city honors. He scored 1,211 career points in basketball and accepted a scholarship to Notre Dame.  Jim played on the freshman basketball team and on the
varsity as a sophomore before deciding on medical school.  He concentrated on baseball his final two years at Notre Dame, serving as captain on an Irish team that earned a Final Four berth in the College World Series.
