Biography: Joe Allen attended (Chicago) Carver HS and Bradley University.  As a two time all state player, Joe led his high school to the state championship in 1963.  Twice, Joe was an all tournament selection for the state finals series.  At Bradley, he was twice selected to the Helms All American Team and the All Sugar Bowl Team.  Three times he was selected to the All Missouri Valley squad and twice was the Bradley Athlete of the Year.  Joe is a member of the Bradley University Hall of Fame.  It should be noted that Joe’s college achievements came while wearing a cumbersome brace to support his chronically weak knee.  Joe later coached as an assistant at his collegiate alma mater.  At the time of his sudden death in 1997, Joe was leading the first ever magnet school in the Peoria school district.
