Biography:

The 1985-86 Parkland College men’s basketball team won its first NJCAA Division II Men’s National Basketball Championship by defeating Keystone (Pa.) Junior College 88-72 at Delta College in University Center, Michigan. The Cobras finished 31-7 and were led by tournament MVP Dave Stein, who poured in 20 second-half points against Keystone, and fellow all-tournament selection Terrance Gray, who had 14 points in the title game on 7-for-8 shooting. 

Parkland shot a record 79.2 percent from the field (35-for-48) in the title game and 18-for-21 on free throws. Terry Cook hit his first 7 shots and finished with 18 points on 8-for-9 shooting. Teammate John Bizeau tied for game-high honors with 20 points on 8-for-9 shooting. Coach Tom Cooper was named tournament and NJCAA Coach of the Year and Stein was a first-team all-America who averaged 21.4 points and 7.7 rebounds a game while shooting 57 percent from the field and 86 percent on free throws.
