St. Elizabeth lived up to its Ironmen nickname by finishing the 1956-57 season with a 48-3 record and City of Chicago and National Catholic championships. Led by Art Hicks, the Ironmen sandwiched a Chicago Catholic League title and a win over Chicago Public League champion Crane for the city crown by traveling to Tennessee to win the top prize in the National Catholic High School Tournament.
