Schools / Organizations: Findlay High School

Biography: With only 96 students, Findlay became the smallest school to win an Illinois state basketball title as it finished 31-2 and claimed the 1991-92 Class A crown (Hebron’s 1952 single-class champions had 98 students). The ninth-ranked team in the final AP poll finally broke through to Champaign after super-sectional losses the previous two years and then wiped out a 14-point third-quarter deficit against Elgin St. Edward to win the quarterfinal 74-60. They beat Benton 83-74 in the semifinals and pulled away to a 61-45 win over Normal University High as 6-8 all-stater and all-tournament selection Clayton Stivers had 21 points and 13 rebounds and Eric Smith and Jim Allen added 16 points apiece. Smith and Stivers averaged 19.5 and 18.8 points respectively in the tournament.
