Biography: Assistant coach and former Manual star Wayne McClain took over for the retired Dick Van Scyoc and led the second-ranked Rams to a 32-2 finish and second straight Class AA title in Champaign. All-tourney picks Willie Coleman and Ivan Watson scored 22 and 21 points respectively in a 65-53 title-game win over Harvey Thornton. Coleman had a title-game record 7 steals and Watson finished second in the tournament in scoring with 67 points in 4 games.  Coleman, Watson, Sergio McClain, Marcus Griffin, Jerral Page and Frank Williams led the Rams as they were 10-1 against teams ranked in the Associated Press top 16 at some point in the season. They beat the No. 1 teamss from Illinois (Chicago Farragut and future NBA star Kevin Garnett) and Missouri (St. Louis Vashon).
