Biography: Ed Hayes has been a friend of basketball ever since his days at Bradley-Bourbonnais and as a coach at Manteno and Bradley-Bourbonnais. In 12 seasons as a coach, Hayes compiled a 205-100 record and as a coach his teams won six Southeast Suburban Conference titles, seven all-Kankakee City titles, holiday tournaments at Pekin and Kankakee, Thanksgiving tourneys at Danville Schlarman, three IHSA Regionals, one IHSA Sectional and made one state tourney trip. Hayes was the first to play on a state tourney team (1949-1950) and return to the state tourney as a coach at the same school (1972-1973). He continued to keep a keen interest in the sport of basketball even though he was no longer coaching.
