Biography: In 1962 at the age of 27, John Schneiter became the youngest coach to win the one class state basketball tournament for Stephen Decatur’s Runnin’ Reds. Eleven years later Schneiter again found himself coaching the state championship game with (Winnetka) New Trier East, a 65-51 loss to Chicago Hirsch.  Schneiter, a graduate of Olney High School and Millikin University, had a combined record of 350-150 upon his 1978 entry to the IBCA Hall of Fame.  His teams had won six league titles and 12 regional titles.  Those teams had also appeared in seven super-sectional games, earning the Elite Eight five times.  Schneiter also coached tennis at the Winnetka school.  Coach Schneiter passed away on January 21, 2014.
