Biography: Greg Sloan is most often remembered for coaching the 1953 undefeated state champions—the Ted Caiazza-led (LaGrange) Lyons High School team.  Sloan started as a coach of all sports at (Springfield) Cathedral High School (now Sacred Heart-Griffin).  His teams won the Catholic title in basketball in 1939 and the consolation title in 1938.  In four seasons at Pittsfield High School, Sloan won two regional and one sectional (1 in 1941 when only four teams advanced to Champaign).  Sloan coached for 10 seasons at LaGrange starting in 1944, earning a record of 205-25.  During that time his teams won two sectionals, three regional and four West Suburban League titles.  Three seasons at Rich Township in Park Forest produced three Southwest Suburban Conference titles, two regional titles, and a 1955 Sweet Sixteen appearance.  Sloan finished his career as the associate superintendent of Rich Township High Schools, retiring in 1979. Greg Sloan passed away on March 2, 1995 at the age of 80.
