Biography: Dick McDonald was the head basketball coach at Blue Mound High School for 22 years.  He also coached track and field, baseball, and cross country at the school.  His combined teams won an incredible 87 tournament titles.  His basketball Knights posted a record of 373-193.  There were 8 seasons with 20+ wins.  From 1966-80 the Knights posted 15 consecutive winning seasons.  During this time they won 42 consecutive Meridian Conference games.  7 times his teams from a tiny school won IHSA Regional titles.  The ’77 and ’78 teams were undefeated until losing in the sectional championship game.  With consiolidation the old high school was refurbished as Meridian Elementary School and in 1993 named the gymnasium after Dick McDonald.
