Biography: In 1923 Villa Grove HS struck a major blow for small school basketball when it defeated Rockford HS 32-29 for the state championship (This was at a time when all schools began in district tournaments. There were no regional assignments at that time.) Curtis E. Pulliam was the coach of that Villa Grove team which posted a 23-2 record that season. Curtis also coached at Winchester JH, St; Elmo HS, Hoopeston HS, and Urbana HS. Unfortunately, no composite record is available although he was successful at each of his coaching stops. As a student, Curtis played at Mt. Vernon High School and Millikin University.
