Biography:

Darrell Hilst has given quite freely of his time and talents for more than 50 years to earn his induction as a friend of basketball.  From 1942-1969, Hilst served as scorekeeper for Forman High School (Manito-Forest City in Tazewell County).  He didn’t stop at that duty, Hilst drove the school bus and for several years drove the basketball coach to scout games.  In August of 1970, Hilst moved to Havana.  His talents did not go to waste.  Hilst quickly moved to the officials’ table for the Havana Ducks as timekeeper and public address announcer.  Hilst was involved with the hometown team official’s table through 1994.  Few in Illinois can match Hilst’s years of devotion to his hometown high school basketball teams.  Darrell Hilst died on September 4, 2000 at the age of 80.
