Biography:
If something was questioned about Hartsburg-Emden High School basketball or other sports, a call was made to “Mr. Stats”, Lyndon Westen.
Westen had complete records of all Hartem athletics. He was an invaluable source for newspapers, television, coaches, and players. Whether the question was to know the biggest margin of victory for the Stags, the most points by a team or individual in a game or season, the top 10 or 20 leading scorers for a season or career, assists, rebounds and recoveries leaders, Lyndon was called. If he didn’t know the answer, he found out.
Westen was the timer for Hartsburg-Emden High School and Junior High basketball games for more than 20 years. When the Stags were traveling, Westen was there with watchful eyes. Westen served as timer for the IHSA Class AA basketball tournament on several occasions.
Because Westen was such a staunch supporter of Hartem athletics and did such a tremendous job of keeping statistics, the coaches at Hartem called Lyndon Westen, “Mr. Stats.” Lyndon died on September 5, 2002 at the age of 79.
