Biography: 

John Garman’s love for sports is not confined to just basketball.  But he does love the game, particularly when Sycamore High School is playing.  At the time of his induction, John had followed Sycamore athletics for 30+ years.  He was on a first name basis with players and coaches not only at Sycamore but with all of the Little Seven Conference schools and many non-conference schools across northern Illinois.  He attended virtually all home games and many away games.  When he was unable to attend, John would listen on the radio.  Garman volunteered his services over the years to Sycamore sports programs.  He continued to be the host for officials working the home games.  Whenever there was a last minute job before a game, John would step up to handle it.  Over the years he became the local sports historian.  The high school, under athletic director, Mike Roberts, initiated a Sports Hall of Fame.  When printed records were unclear, Mike would rely on John Garman’s knowledge and memory to recall those Sycamore athletic highlights.
