Biography: Gil Brenner was a friend of everybody.  A great high school basketball player at Cissna Park HS, Gil went on to graduate from the University of Illinois.  He was a top tennis player and played on the state YMCA championship volleyball team.  Brenner, the Journal Youth Beat editor, wrote sports for The Journal for 31 years before his other reporting responsibilities forced him to drop that part of his duties in 1975.  He covered all sports at Bradley Bourbannais Community High School, did colorful sidebar features on the annual Kankakee Holiday Basketball Tournament and was for years the most accurate prep basketball tournament prognosticator in Illinois.  Gil Brenner passed away on December 19, 1977.
