Biography: At the time of his induction in 1973, John Rackaway was the sports editor of the Mt. Vernon Register-News, where he served faithfully for over 2 decades.  John was a pillar in prep sports for a long time and a most knowledgeable basketball writer.  His column, “Sporting Daze,” is known all over the State of Illinois.  A graduate of Mt. Vernon HS and the University of Colorado, John enjoyed returning to his hometown and promoting the games that he loved.
