Biography: Paul has served as the official scorekeeper for Carbondale High School boys’ basketball bames for 25+ years, both home and away.  He also serves as the official scorer for the Carbondale Holiday Tournament.  Paul chronicled Carbondale’s pursuit of a state championship in the 1993-94 season.  What began as a diary of his son’s final year of high school basketball, ended up being a book published by Southern Illinois University Press.  Paul Bates passed away on December 18, 2018.
