Biography: Les Harman served the Illinois High School basketball in nearly all capacities. When Barrington High School boasted but 225 students, Harman coached five seasons there and posted 112 wins against 24 losses. He picked off four conference titles, three regional titles and two district crowns. When he came to Barrington, Harman built his high school program by working with the elementary kids before school and during lunch hours. Many of Barrington’s 1954 state tourney teams started in Harman’s program as sixth graders. Harman coached one season at Hebron before accepting principalship at North Chicago High School when it opened. He served as assignment chairman for conference football, basketball and baseball. He served three years on the IHSA Rules Committee with Milt Sprunger and Ernie Lieberson. Harman worked full schedules as an official from 1952-1964 and received many regional and sectional assignments. In addition, Harman worked six years as a Big Ten Conference official. Les Harman died on August 25, 2002 at the age of 85.
