Biography:

Mike Monahan spent 31 years in print (Mattoon 19, Arcola Record Herald 7 and stints at Champaign, Piatt County, Tolono and Cerro Gordo).  Mike has covered over 4,300 IESA and IHSA events.  It is estimated that Mike has written 9,100 plus stories and has traveled 300,000 miles in Illinois covering games.  He has conducted more than 15,300 interviews.  Amazingly Monahan has physically covered 1,358 boys’ and girls’ basketball games.  In 2019 Mike Monahan was one of the Illinois Coaches Association Sports Writers of the Year.
