Biography:  Margie Burgett was a front row fixture at Havana High School basketball games for 55+ years.  Officials came to know her on a first name basis.  An avid fan, Margie never had a technical foul called on her even though the referees knew that she never hesitated to let an official or coach know about a bad call or play that was made.  Margie was there at the times when only a handful of fans showed up for a Ducks’ game.  She also stood in line for tickets when Havana advanced to a super-sectional game or the finals in Champaign.

Margie had the joy of watching 2 sons and 2 grandsons wear the uniform of the Ducks.  From the late 1940’s through the 1970’s Margie worked at her father’s restaurant.  She helped feed the team after games and worked on the end of the year steak feed for the squad.

Margie saw the game evolve from using the 2-hand set shot to the modern jump shot.  She helped dozens of Havana students with advice.  She was always available to help those in the Havana community.

Margie Burgett died on November 21, 2018 at the age of 87.
