Biography:  Retired Edwardsville High School basketball coach and IBCA Hall of Famer, Joe Lucco had a spwcial place for Jack W. Butler.  Jack was the center on the first Edwardsville team to reach the IHSA state finals in 1951.  Lucco remembers losing 57-54 to eventual champion Freeport HS but felt that Butler outplayed McKinley “Deacon” Davis in the game.  Butler was named to the all-Southwestern Conference team and was acclaimed as the St. Louis Metro area’s 4th best player by the St. Louis Star-Times.  Jack scored 556 career points as an Edwardsville player before moving on to Northwestern University where he played for three seasons.
