Biography:  John was a three-year/three sport letterman at Canton High School in basketball, football, and track.  As a junior he was an all-state honorable mention.  As a senior, John was an all-state player.  When his prep career ended, John was in the top 5 scorers for the Little Giants.  He led the team in scoring during his senior season.

After his high school exploits, Cruser played three seasons as a starter for the Redbirds of Illinois State University.  He averaged 18.6 ppg as a junior and 19.5 ppg as a senior.  Also, during his senior season of 1965, John was the team captain.  At the time of his collegiate graduation, John was the 6th leading scorer in ISU history.  He led the team in free throws twice during his career.  He set the Redbird free throw record for free throws in a single game.

John Cruser died on January 17, 1994 at the age of 50.
