Biography: After compiling a 78-17 record in 3 season s at Centralia High School (including two 29-win seasons), Bill Davies served as head basketball coach at Streator High School from 1962-1971. Bill’s total varsity record is 222-116. At Centralia, his teams won 2 South Seven Conference titles. In one stretch the teams won 23 of 24 conference games. His 1962 team gained a spot in the final “Elite Eight” fields to play in old Huff Gymnasium. In 1961-62 his teams won consecutive Centralia and Salem Holiday tournament titles. At Streator, his teams won 3 consecutive Morris Holiday Tournament titles. Additionally, his first 4 Streator teams posted an 88-21 record, the first time in that school’s history that a coach had 4 consecutive 20-win seasons. The Bulldogs won their first sectional title in 22 years during the 1964 season under Davies’ guidance. From 1960-66 his teams ranked consistently in the state’s top 15 teams. Bill coached eight all state players during his career. Bill passed away on June 20, 2017.
