Biography

Franklin Park’s Jim Edison had been a member of the Pioneer Press sports staff for 30 years at the time of his induction. The last 20 were spent in the West Central Bureau where he covered high school and community sports in Park Ridge, Niles, Des Plaines and Norridge. During his tenure with the Pioneer Press, Edison’s talents were recognized numerous times, including being named its 1998 Sportswriter of the Year. Edison also received the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Newsman of the Year award in 1989 and 1997.

The Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association named Edison the 1998 Sports Reporter of the Year. Soccer coaches in the Central Suburban League and East Suburban Catholic Conference have praised Edison’s skill, naming him the 1993 Media Man of the Year and nominating him as the state’s top soccer writer.

Edison’s coverage of high school sports has always been honest and professional. He has told the story of high school athletic experiences – the rough times as well as the joyful successes – with a conscientious and compassionate voice through game stories, features and player profiles. Edison was inducted into the Park Ridge Maine South High School Hall of Fame 2001-02 class.
