Biography:
LaTonia Foster was voted the fourth Ms. Basketball in 1989 after leading (Chicago) Marshall High School to the IHSA Class AA state championship. Foster was the first player from the Chicago Public League to receive the honor. The 6-foot-1 senior center averaged 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Commandos.
Foster’s success continued at The University of Iowa as she led the program to four NCAA tournament appearances and the Final Four in 1993 and three Big Ten titles. She was a consensus All-America pick and Big Ten Player of the Year in 1993 as she led the Hawkeyes in scoring at 15.7 points a game and averaged 8.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. As of 2021, she is fifth in career rebounds (887), sixth in blocks (145), ninth in scoring (1,606 points) and 14th in steals (167). She also had 27 career double-doubles. She was inducted into the Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.
Foster was chosen with the eighth pick of the first WNBA draft by the Phoenix Mercury. She played from 1997-99 and averaged 6.5 points a game.
