Waltonville High School

Biography:  Harold Frick transferred from Bonnie HS to Waltonville HS in the mid-1930’s.  He was ineligible when the 1936 Spartans made it to the East St. Louis Sectional where they lost in the finals to Centralia HS.  That was the start of a sincere love of basketball for Harold.

For nearly 4 decades leading up to his induction, Harold would leave his hardware store and head to the Waltonville gymnasium on game nights where a pencil and scorebook awaited him for 35 years.  His induction year was his final season as he felt that the school needed “somebody younger”.  At age 71, Harold ended his scorekeeping career which began in 1956 at Waltonville Grade School.  When Dave Simpson became the head coach at the high school, he asked Harold to move with him.

Harold enjoyed watching this three sons play for the Spartans but admitted that there were a few times that he got caught watching the games.  Those teams were highly regarded in the Southern Illinois area.

Harold Frick died on October 26, 2008 at the age of 88.
