Biography: Kendall Gill was inducted during his second season with the Charlotte Hornets of the NBA. He ultimately played at the pro level for 15 years for various teams. He scored nearly 13,000 points, grabbed over 4,000 rebounds and stole the ball 1,500 times. Before that career, Kendall made his mark on Illinois basketball.
Kendall played 2 seasons for (Olympia Fields) Rich Central High School. He led the Olympians to a 2nd place finish in the IHSA 1986 Class AA State Tournament. Kendall was named to the all-tournament team after (Chicago) King defeated them 47-40.
Kendall scored 667 points as a 6’3″ senior. He pulled down 201 rebopunds and set a school mark for steals with 147. Kendall was named to the AP, Chicago Tribune and IBCA all-state teams.
He joined his King opponent, Marcus Liberty, in Champaign at the University of Illinois. They helped lead the Illini to one of their best eras, winning 98 games against only 31 losses. The Illini made 4 straight NCAA appearances, reaching the Final Four in 1990. In 117 games with the Fighting Illini, Gill scored 1,409 points for a 12.0 ppg average. He was a 3rd team All-American selection for The Sporting News.
Gill was the first selection from the Big Ten Conference in the 1990 NBA draft. At that time he was the highest pick from the Illini by the pro league. Kendall is one of the best NBA players to advance from the prep courts of Illinois.
