Biography: Stan Greenfield played basketball at Ashton High School, Rockford College and later for the Rockford Royals of the Continental Basketball League. Although only 5’11” and 147 lbs., he played like a giant. One opposing coach said of Stan,: “the opposing team always assigns their best defensive guard to watch him–and that is usually what happens–they watch him.”
Stan averaged 17 ppg as a junior at Ashton and 23 ppg as a senior. His scoring increased as he entered college. At Rockford College, Stan averaged 24.2 ppg as a freshman; 18.8 ppg as a sophomore; 28.6 ppg as a junior and 24 ppg as a senior. He scored over 30 points in a game, nine times.
In the College vs University game at Bradley’s Robertson Fieldhouse, Greenfield scored 21 points in the first half and finished with 35 total points despite being guarded by future NBA player Fred Brown in the second half.
After college, Stan played for one season with Athletes in Action and one with the Rockford Royals. He went on to coach in the state of Nebraska where his team won the state title at Aurora, Neb. in 1985-87. Stan earned several Coach of the Year awards.
