Biography:  Bob Gregor played basketball for four years for Edwardsville High School (1950-54).  As a freshman, he was the 6th man on the Tigers’ first IHSA state tournament team.  At the age of 14, he was the youngest player at the time to score a field goal in a state tournament game.

Bob and his Tiger teammates made another appearance in the IHSA state tournament in 1954.  Bob made what was then the longest shot in tournament history at 55 feet.  Despite that, the Tigers were defeated by eventual champion, (Chicago) DuSable High School.  Edwardsville finished 4th that year.  Bob and his teammate Don Ohl were both named to the 1954 All-Tournament team.

As a sophomore and senior, Bob was named to the Southwestern Conference’s all conference squad.  As a senior, Bob was named by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch to its all district team.

He attended Vanderbilt University on a baseball scholarship from 1954-58.  Unfortunately, his athletic career was cut short by a ruptured Achilles tendon during his junior season.
