Biography: Charlie is the author of “The Essig Report,” a computerized tabulation of the comparative strengths of large school boys’ basketball teams.  He initiated the report in 1990 after recognizing the need for a rating system that took into account information other than one’s personal opinion.  Charlie captained the 1948 West Aurora basketball team to its first conference championship, leading the league in scoring.  He played at Bradley University and in state AAU tournaments.
