Biography: Arthur used some American ingenuity to make a huge contribution to basketball.  Upon hearing of the problems that schools were having with bent and/or boken rims, Arthur went back to his home in Virden and bought a $20 rim.  After studying its structure, Arthur said “this is easy to fix.”  he then invented and patented the breakaway rim that has become a standard at all levels of play.  Arthur died on July 9, 2015 at the age of 90.
