Biography: Allen was an all-state player on a 27-3 Class A Elite Eight team at Dakota High (1978-79). After high school, Allen moved on to Northern Illinois University. He graduated as No. 1 MAC and NIU career scorer (1,848 points). Allen was one of first ten players in MAC history to amass four-digit totals in career points and rebounds (1,077). He was drafted in seventh round by the Seattle Supersonics (June, 1982). He led the Huskies to their first NCAA Division I Tourney berth and MAC Postseason title (1981-82). He tied for NIU Player of Century and was named on All-Century (2000-01), All-Time Evans FH (1997), plus Player of Decade and All-Decade (1990) units. He was selected Honorable Mention AP All-America and Basketball Weekly All-Mideast as senior. He ranked 17th in NCAA rebounding (11.1 rpg.) The Huskies were Mid-Am regular-season champions during his junior year. Allen was a three-time First-Team All-MAC, All-MAC Tourney, and team MVP (1979-82). He was voted Mid-Am Tourney MVP and averaged 15.3 ppg. and 9.0 rpg. as a senior co-captain. He also led the league in FG pct. (it also set the NIU-record at 57.5%) as a senior. Allen was cited as MAC Scholar-Athlete (1981-82). He earned 16 NIU records for career points, rebounds, FG pct. blocked shots, point-rebound “double doubles”, and starts. Allen played for CBA Rockford Lightning (1986-87).
