Biography: Melvin was an inside force who earned all-state player honors at (Chicago) Mt. Carmel High School.  He helped lead the Caravan to the Class AA State Championship.  The game was won in double overtime over (Springfield) Lanphier High School.  The 6-fot 8-inch Melvin went on to play for four years at Purdue University, scoring 1,554 point in a career that spanned from 1986 to 1990.  He later spent time with the Lakers of the NBA.
